UBPO pitches for development of BKWAC, delimitation of constituency

KOKRAJHAR: The United Bodo People's Organization (UBPO) on Sunday resolved to support the new Boro Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council (BKWAC) headed by Mihiniswar Basumatary for the significant development of the council area and delimitation of constituencies for holding election.

An executive meeting of the UBPO with representatives of all districts outside BTR was held in Guwahati on Sunday with Manuranjan Bssumatary, president of the organization in the chair. The meeting thoroughly discussed on the future plan of development of BKWAC, delimitation of constituencies and protection of tribal belts and blocks from illegal encroachment and occupation by unqualified persons.

Talking to this reporter, the president of the UBPO Manuranjan Bssumatary said they wanted the new BKWAC to be self sufficient, strong in system and there ahould be uninterrupted flow of fund for development. He said the new council was having lack of fund to carry out developmental activities and officers are yet to be deputed to streamline the functioning of council.

Basumatary said the tribal belts and blocks were not protected as per Assam Land and Revenue Regulation Act, 1886, but most of the tribal lands are under the illegal occupation of alien groups. He said the government should protect all the tribal belts and blocks and implement the Traditional Forest Dwellers' Act, 2006 to ensure the land rights to indigenous tribal people. He also urged the government of Assam to take proactive policy to bring fast development in BKWAC area with sufficient funds. He further said that a delegation will fly to New Delhi shortly with certain issues and demands including setting up of Door Darshan Kendra in Sanjari Nwgwr, Dhemaji and Sisupani in Golaghat district to promote culture and traditions of the Boro Kachari people.

CEM of BKWAC and founder president of UBPO Mihiniswar Basumatary said the UBPO should work together with all democratic organizations for the protection and development of infrastructure, language, culture, education and economic viability of Boro Kachari people living outside BTR. He said coordinated efforts and comprehensive policy should always be there to achieve their goal. He called upon the UBPO representatives to work unitedly for the interest of development, safety and security of the community and protection of language, culture, literature and economy.

The meeting was also addressed by former vice president of UBPO and present Chairman of BKWAC Gambaru Mashahary, former general secretary and present EM Anil Basumatary, UBPO advisors -Bipin Goyary and Sukreswar Basumatary.

A committee was also formed to look after the delimitation of constituencies in BKWAC with Manuranjan Basumatary, Pitambar Brahma, Bipin Goyary, Badal Mashahary and Nayanjyoti Boro.
