KOKRAJHAR: The United Bodo People's Organization (UBPO), which is one of the stakeholders of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) accord signed on January 27, 2020, will submit the names of persons to be inducted in the interim executive and general council of Boro Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council (BKWAC) to the Government of Assam.
Talking to this reporter, the general secretary of the UBPO said an executive meeting of the organization was held on Friday at Bodoland Guest House in Guwahati with Mihiniswar Basumatary, president of the organization, in the chair. He said that some important resolutions were taken in the meeting which included to empower the central committee of UBPO and to finalize the names of members to be inducted in the general council and executive council of BKWAC interim council to be formed soon. He said the UBPO will submit the list of members to the government of Assam.
The UBPO hailed the Government of Assam, especially Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and State Finance Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma for getting the BKWAC bill passed. The organization has urged the Government of Assam to form the interim council of BKWAC within January to ensure socio-economic development, protection of language, culture, literature and political rights of Boro Kachari people living outside BTC.
The organization has already decided to hold its terminating annual conference with a three-day colourful programmes on February 5, February 6 and February 7 in Golaghat district and therefore, appealed to all frontal Bodo organizations and other democratic organizations in the locality not to call bandh on those days.
