UDALGURI: "Udalguri is prepared to face the situation arising out of the COVID-19 pandemic," said State PHE Minister and local MLA Rihon Daimari while addressing media persons in Udalguri. "As per reports, there are more than 15,000 people from Udalguri, stranded outside the State. We have prepared more than 650 beds for quarantine in model hospitals and institutions. So we appeal to our people outside the State to stay where they are now for some time. Later they can return conveniently when the situation improves," he said.

The minister added, "So far 98 people have returned to Udalguri by making their own arrangement. Another 63 arrived by train and 37 people are coming from Chennai. The district administration, police and health workers are doing their best to control the situation in the district."

He appealed to all people to follow lockdown norms and to be cautious. The PHE department has arranged for water, sanitation and toilet facilities in the quarantine centres in Assam, he said.

Charan Boro, Majbat MLA, accompanied the minister. He said that 15 persons had arrived in a bus from Chennai.

Another 27 people were coming from Nepal and a bus had been sent to Delhi to bring back the stranded people from Rowta. Rihon Daimari distributed masks and sanitizers to the local media people at Udalguri.
