ULFA (I) Denies Involvement of its Members in Tinsukia Incident

TINSUKIA: An encounter that took place in the Tinsukia district of Assam in the morning hours of December 21, involving the Indian Army and Assam Police left a supposed arms supplier for ULFA injured. But the banned outfit has denied any involvement in the incident.

Following the incident, Captain Rumel Assam, of the United Liberation Front of Assam (Independent) used a press release denying any involvement of the outfit in the Upper Dihing Forest region. He also mentioned that the incidents are nothing but an attempt to hide their own mistakes and create confusion in the minds of the locals by the Assam Police and the occupying forces. Adding that this is nothing new for them, the statement also asked the people not to believe in such heinous acts of the enemy.

The family and relatives of the victim protested against the authorities and claimed that the person had actually gone fishing in the region when he was picked up by army personnel and beaten up and interrogated before staging a fake encounter in the forest. They also called upon the chief minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma to order a proper enquiry into the incident and punish those responsible for the atrocity. Amit Mukhiya is the name of the injured person and he belongs to the tea tribe community of the region.

Moreover, the Superintendent of Police of Tinsukia Gaurav Abhijit Dilip mentioned that there is an absolute surety of his involvement. Talking to reporters, he mentioned that the persons were involved in the planting of an IED three months back. And that there is clear evidence proving his involvement and important details confirming the same have been revealed during interrogation. He also mentioned that the case will be proceeded as per the law.

Jitmol Doley the DIG (NER) in Tinsukia also visited the location of the incident and took stock of the situation.
