Guwahati: The banned United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) on May 12 claimed that Biju Gogoi alias Bhagya Axom was not killed in the ULFA-I camp and instead, the insurgent group said that he committed suicide by shooting himself in the head with a gun.

The banned outfit denied all the allegations levelled against the organization by a suspected ULFA-I cadre Santosh Lama alias Apu Axom, who was arrested in Jairampur near the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border by the Tinsukia police on May 11.

The ULFA-I presented their version via a press communiqué, stating that the feeling of inferiority complex got instilled in the mind of Biju as a result of which he was morally down and it led to Biju falling into the trap of his comrades.

He could not succeed in carrying out his duty according to a suicide note which was discovered at the camp.

The ULFA-I said that he shot himself with a gun at the camp between 12 am to 3 am on February 21, 2022 and the armed group allegedly shared a suicide note written by Biju Gogoi.

Meanwhile, the banned militant outfit also claimed that the suspected ULFA-I cadre identified as Santosh Lama alias Apu Axom was never given the rank of a cadre as he did not subscribe to the constitution of the ULFA-I.

As per the ULFA-I, Lama left his home to join the outfit but he was more inclined toward extortion related activities rather than the outfit's core demand for the sovereignty of Assam. The ULFA-I, via a press statement, stated that this is the reason why he was never given the rank of a ULFA-I cadre.
