Guwahati: The United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) (I) led by Paresh Baruah has extended the unilateral ceasefire by another three months.
Informing about the same, Baruah on Sunday in a statement asserted that that the outfit has decided to extend the ceasefire for another three months.
"The ULFA has decided to extend the unilateral ceasefire by three months. During the period, the organisation will desist from all kinds of military operations," he added.
In the wake of COVID-19 situation in Assam, the outfit had declared a unilateral ceasefire on May 15 last. On the same ground, it had extended its ceasefire by another three months.
The development is considered to be an important as reportedly there are indications of peace talks between government and the outfit.
Though the group has refrained themselves from engaging in arm activities during the ceasefire period, however, they are reportedly recruiting new members.
Recently, the Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had asserted that his government are in talks with the group ever since he took charge.
