UNICEF-KKHSOU organizes media workshop for print journalists

The UNICEF-KKHSOU organized a media workshop for the print journalists from Kokrajhar, Chirang, Dhubri and Bongaigaon district on Saturday.

DHUBRI: The UNICEF-KKHSOU organized a media workshop for the print journalists from Kokrajhar, Chirang, Dhubri and Bongaigaon district on Saturday. The workshop was held on the 'Impact of Malnutrition on the Children of Assam and Ending Violence Against Children' (EVA).

In the workshop, Head of the Department, KKHSOU Mass Communication, Dr Jayanta Kr Sarma; Dr Tulika Goswami, Head of the Department, Community Medicine, AMCH; and Kishor Kr Kalita, advocate of Gauhati High Court, took part in the workshop, which was hosted by senior journalist Mrinal Talukdar, on behalf of the UNICEF-KKHSOU Media Project.

Making a detailed legal presentation, Kishore Kalita highlighted the crime situation against children and how the media could handle that and how with detailed reporting both the issues could be addressed and children's interest could also be protected.

Dr Tulika Goswami, AMCH, focused on malnutrition of children in Assam. She reasserted that latest data of National Health and Family Survey (NHFS-5) showed that 35.3 per cent children in Assam were stunted. Dr Jayanta Kr Sarma in his presentation dwelt on the future of media, career advancement of working journalists through the KKHSOU as well as future of media, besides how the media could play a crucial role in protecting the interest of the children as well as society.

Under the media project of UNICEF-KKHSOU, altogether six such workshops are being planned all over Assam. Three such workshops have already been held at Dhemaji, Bongaigaon and Tinsukia. The next three will be held at Goalpara, Silchar and Hailakandi in the days to come.
