KOKRAJHAR: The Minister of State for Textiles, Petroleum, Government of India, Darshna Vikram Jardosh visited Kokrajhar on Thursday and laid the foundation stone of 'Apparel and Garment Unit' under Soil to Silk project, NERTPS at Bodoland Silk Park, Adabari, Kokrajhar in presence of Daobaisa Boro, Executive Member (EM), Sericulture, BTR; Dhananjay Basumatary, Executive Member, Handloom and Textiles, BTR and other dignitaries.
After the foundation stone, the Union Minister of State visited the training centre, cocoon bank, silk printing and processing facilities and silk museum in the Bodoland Silk Park. She interacted with the entrepreneurs, weavers and other beneficiaries present on the occasion and encouraged them to produce diversified products having export qualities. Thereafter, a joint interactive session was held at the conference hall of the Silk Park and she interacted with the State and Central Silk Board officials, weavers and she emphasized develop more training infrastructures and modernization of the weaving sector in the region.
Prabhat Borpuzari, Scientist-D, MESSO, Central Silk Board (CSB) explained the role of CSB and MESSO for overall development of Muga and Eri sector in the region. He also informed that CSB had trained few farmers and State Government officials of Gujarat to take up Eri culture in the State recently.
Dr. Jogesh Deuri, Director (retired), Department of Sericulture, BTR, explained various programmes being implemented in BTR from soil to silk. She advised all the stakeholders to improve the socio-economic condition of the stakeholders through implementation of various developmental schemes in true spirit.
During the interactive session, on behalf of Directorate of Sericulture, BTR; the EM, Daobaisa Boro submitted a new project concept note on Bodoland Eri Mission to the minister for an amount of Rs. 100 crore (approx) for developing 6,000 acres of tapioca plantation for overall development of Eri culture under the project in BTR region. The minister expressed her happiness to see the enthusiasm of the farmers, weavers and other stakeholders, including officials of BTR, who have been making their continuous efforts for development of sericulture in the region.
