Union Minister of State for External Affairs & Culture Meenakshi Lekhi highlighted the significance of the ‘Transformation of Aspirational District’ programme

SILCHAR: Union Minister of State for External Affairs & Culture Meenakshi Lekhi highlighted the significance of the 'Transformation of Aspirational District' programme in propelling development among the most backward districts and making them levers of growth in country's development journey. Lekhi, who visited Hailakandi on Friday, met the members of various SHGs of the districts and advised to market their products in a better and commercial way. She met the district officials to take stock of various flagship projects of the central government. Lekhi later attended Bihu programmes in Silchar. She said, "This special festival which marks the beginning of Assamese New Year showcases the vibrant Assamese culture. Thoroughly enjoyed the lively performance."

On Saturday Lekhi addressed the party workers in Silchar. She further visited the RSS office here and had discussion with the local Sangh leaders.

Lekhi met eminent physician as well as social worker Dr. Kumar Kanti Das, popularly known as Lakhan Das. Lekhi said, she was extremely happy to meet such a person who came back to India from USA to serve his motherland and devoted his entire life to the service of the poor by offering free medical treatment.
