Union Minister Rameswar Teli assures setting up of food-processing parks in BTR

The Union Minister of State for Food Processing Industries, Rameswar Teli on Monday visited Kokrajhar and held discussion with the Chief Executive Member

KOKRAJHAR: The Union Minister of State for Food Processing Industries, Rameswar Teli on Monday visited Kokrajhar and held discussion with the Chief Executive Member (CEM), Pramod Boro and officers of various departments to chalk out plans to set up food processing parks. Since BTR districts have full potential of producing various foods, the minister laid emphasis on the need of setting up of food processing industries.

Teli held meeting with officials of agriculture, horticulture, fishery, commerce and industries at BTC Secretariat conference hall in presence of CEM of BTC, Pramod Boro, Executive Members, Principal Secretary, Deputy Commissioner and other officials. The minister assured that he would take steps for the setting up of food processing park and a mini food processing industry in BTR. He said that four districts of BTR would get one food processing industry each under the One District One Product (ODOP) mission of the Prime Minister Kisan Samman Nidhi to encourage the farmers.

As part of the ODOP, Kokrajhar district will get food processing industry of mushroom, Chirang district will get processing industry for lemon while Baksa and Udalguri districts will get food processing units for bee production and potato respectively. He also assured that testing lab would be set up at Central Institute of Technology (CIT), Kokrajhar and Bodoland University (BU) as soon as possible.

The minister also visited Bodoland University and CIT, Kokrajhar where the testing lab would be set up. He was accompanied by BTC CEM Pramod Boro, EMs and other officers.
