SIVASAGAR: Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister, Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India and former Chief Minister of Assam, arrived in Sivasagar on Wednesday to take stock of the preparation for the 50th day countdown of International Yoga Day, 2022 scheduled to be held on May 2, 2022 at the premises of historic Shiva Dol.

On the other hand, for this purpose, the minister also held a formal meeting at the Syukafa Conference Hall of DC's Office, Sivasagar with officials of various concerned departments, organizations and noted citizens.

Sonowal, who was accompanied by State Health and Family Welfare Minister Keshab Mahanta, Jorhat MP Topon Kumar Gogoi and Thowra MLA Sushanta Borgohain, said that the national-level yoga programme to be held on May 2, would give special impetus to re-identification and re-establishment of historical Sivasagar at the national and international level.

The minister emphasized the importance of yoga in achieving a healthy and fit body in the present times and also referred to yoga as a traditional healing method and a non-medicinal system of curing diseases.

Speaking on the occasion, Keshab Mahanta, Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Assam, said that the national-level event would be held in and around the historic Shiva Dol in Sivasagar and the Deputy Commissioner of Sivasagar, on behalf of the Government of Assam, will play a pivotal role in the programme. Megha Nidhi Dahal, Deputy Commissioner, Sivasagar informed about the arrangements already taken by the district administration for conducting the event.
