DIBRUGARH: The Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways and Ayush, Sarbananda Sonowal visited many erosion-affected regions of his home district Dibrugarh on Tuesday. Sonowal made enquiries with the common people about the losses incurred in view of the river erosion, especially by the Brahmaputra and Dibru rivers. The minister visited Pukhurijaan, Balijaan, Bindhakota Bornamghorstholi, Gereki Nepali and other affected areas.
He discussed about the corrective steps taken with the officials in view of the reported loss of livestock and farm stock in these areas. Speaking after the visit to the affected regions, the Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said, "To find a pragmatic and sustainable solution to Assam's flood and erosion woes, the Union Government & the State governments are working together under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The government is laying special emphasis on creating a scientific solution to prevent erosion in the State. Erosion resistant embankment between Guijaan and Maaijan is being worked out to prevent any future occurrence of the erosion in the areas. We believe that this project will bring in much required relief to the people residing by the banks of rivers, especially in Dibrugarh and Tinsukia districts. I am confident that the financial assistance provided by the Modi government, to the tune of Rs 110 crores to tackle the flood and erosion problems of Dinjaan, Pukhurijaan, Guuijaan and other adjoining areas, will bring in much required relief to the people."
