United Bodo People's Organization observes 7th foundation day across Assam

The United Bodo People’s Organization (UBPO), a strong democratic body of the Bodos living outside the BTC districts

KOKRAJHAR: The United Bodo People's Organization (UBPO), a strong democratic body of the Bodos living outside the BTC districts, observed its 7th foundation day on Saturday. The foundation was observed by 21 district committees across Assam and by the central committee of the organization in Guwahati.

The president of the UBPO, MihiniswarBasumatary graced the occasion as chief guest at SanjariNwgwr, SimenChapori in Dhemaji district while general secretary and assistant general secretary-Anil Basumatary and Pranab Boro -attended the foundation day ceremony at Laliyapara in Bongaigaon district and Baokabangi in Dhubri district respectively.

The general secretary of the UBPO, Anil Basumatary pitched for early implementation of Clause-V of the BTR accord signed on January 27, 2020 between the Government of India, Government of Assam and stakeholders of four factions of NDFB, ABSU and UBPO, for the creation of BoroKachari Autonomous Council (BKAC) for the BoroKachari people living outside BTC districts.

Basumatary said the prime objective of the UBPO was to work for the socio-economic development and protection of the political and constitutional rights of the BoroKachari people living outside BTC areas. He said the organization had been demanding the creation of BKAC outside BTC for BoroKachari people and accordingly, the Government of India had ensured the creation of the new council and included Clause-V in the BTR accord. He also said that there was urgent need of introducing the bill for the formation of BKAC in the next assembly session.

The UBPO was formed on July 18, 2014 at SanjariNwgwr, SimenChapori in Dhemaji district with an aim to work for the development of BoroKachari people and protection of their constitutional privileges.
