United Bodo People's Organization submits Memoranda to Four Union Ministers

The United Bodo People’s Organization (UBPO) submitted separate memoranda to four ministers of the Union Government in support of multiple demands.

LAKHIMPUR: The United Bodo People's Organization (UBPO) submitted separate memoranda to four ministers of the Union Government in support of multiple demands.

In this context, UBPO State president Manoranjan Basumatari informed this correspondent that a delegation of the organization, led by him and general secretary Pitambar Brahma, called on Arjun Munda, the Minister for Tribal Affairs, at his residence at Toghlak Road in New Delhi on Friday and submitted a memorandum with five demands. Then the UBPO delegation called on Sarbananda Sonowal, the Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways and AYUSH at Parivahan Bhavan, Rameswar Teli, the Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Labour and Employment and Food Processing at Shastri Bhavan, and Ramdas Athawale, the Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, at Race Club in New Delhi and submitted separate memoranda.

By submitting the memoranda, the organization demanded the ministers of the Union Government to evict the encroachment upon tribal belts and blocks, Tribal Sub Plans and forest areas of Assam under the provisions of the Chapter X of the Assam Land and Revenue Regulation (Amendment) Act, 1886, to grant special fund for the establishment of Boro Cultural Research Centre under the administrative jurisdiction of the Bodo Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council (BKWAC) for promoting cultural and social ethics and its uplift, to initiate necessary arrangements to provide rehabilitation to the former BLT cadres and surrendered NDFB militants and withdraw all Bodoland movement-related cases lying pending against the former BLT cadres and surrendered NDFB militants with immediate effect, and to take urgent initiative for installation of at least two Doordarshan Kendras at Sanjari Nwgwr, Simen Chapari in Dhemaji district and at Jayphukuri in Golaghat district.

During the discussion with the delegation while submitting the memoranda, the ministers assured them to fulfill the demands. The other members of the delegation were UBPO assistant general secretary Amit Kumar Basumatari, treasurer Bistiram Narzary and sports secretary Failao Mussahari.
