UP Criminal Stayed in Assam in Disguise as a Tutor, Arrested

A criminal, who escaped from the police custody of Lucknow police in Uttar Pradesh 10 years back was rearrested from Assam.

GUWAHATI:  A police team from Uttar Pradesh arrested one Dinesh Tiwari from Diphu town. The fugitive, who had escaped from police custody in UP, had disguised himself as an English subject tutor and a grocery shop owner during his stay in Assam for 10 years

The police team from Uttar Pradesh arrested the absconding criminal Dinesh Tiwari on Thursday from town in Assam. They had announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh to anyone who could provide information leading to his arrest on October 17. He had a grocery shop in the town and also provided tutoring to students.

Dinesh Tiwari was named in a case for which he was later sentenced to life imprisonment in 2012. He had escaped from police custody after the sentence was passed.Rs 5000 was announced on the criminal's head initially in 2014, which eventually rose to Rs 1 lakh by the time he was rearrested in Assam

The Joint commissioner of police, law and order, Piyush Mordia told about the Operation Prahar of UP Police. Under this operation, the state police started to track down criminals who had been absconding for a long time on the direction of the police commissioner. They were located and brought back to the state to ensure the punishment was administered.

"We have taken about 100 absconding criminals under the operation and plan to arrest them soon. They are spread in different parts of the country including West Bengal, Delhi and Maharashtra. Cash rewards ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 1 lakh have been announced on them," said PiyushMordia.

As per the latest data provided by the officer, 49 absconding criminals have been arrested till now under this operation. The accused, Dinesh Tiwari was a native of Deoria in the state and was sentenced to life imprisonment by the court in a murder case of 2009.

"We got a tip-off on his location and a police team was sent to Diphu city in Assam to arrest Tiwari. There are seven cases lodged against him across the state. The cases include murder, kidnapping, attempt to murder, and Gangster Act from Jaunpur in 2010", said DCP East Lucknow, Prachi Singh.
