TANGLA: Kokrajhar Lok Sabha MP and Gana Surakha Party (GSP) leader Naba Kumar Sarania on Wednesday reiterated his party's commitment to protect the socio-economic rights, including land rights, of the non-Bodo population, and to promote peace, prosperity, development and communal harmony among various communities of the Bodo belt.

Addressing a party workers' meet at Bordoloi Bhavan in Tangla town of Udalguri district on Wednesday, Sarania opined that the Bodo belt had enormous potential to attract tourists along with scope for self-employment generation in various areas for the educated unemployed youths and his party had a vision plan to tap such potential if voted to power. He further said that like the previous accords, the 3rd Bodo Accord had been inked without considering the views of non-Bodo people as they had been deprived of land rights in the Bodo belt. Both Bodoland People's Front (BPF) and United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) were two faces of the same coin which would continue to dominate the non-Bodo population if voted to power, added Sarania.

He further said that it was now time for progress and development in the region and his party wanted people to be stakeholders of development. He also claimed that Gana Suraksha Party-backed candidates would win with great margin and his party would form the next government in the council. A number of Gana Suraksha Party leaders, including Mukti Devi, attended the party workers' meet.
