KOKRAJHAR: The 4th triennial conference of United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) will be held with a three-day programme in Kokrajhar within mid-November this year.

A strong reception committee was formed on Wednesday at the Kokrajhar Science College auditorium hall with MLA Lawrence Islary as chairman, Pramod Boro as chief convener, Madhav Chandra Chetri, political advisor of Pramod Boro as convener, and minister UG Brahma as chief patron.

Speaking to media persons, the general secretary of UPPL, Raju Kr. Narzary said that prominent political leaders would be invited to the mega political conference where over 2 lakh people are expected. He called upon all to participate in the conference for positive change.

Narzary said the corruption had come down in BTC since the UPPL overtook the BTC government with various reformative agendas. He said a section of politically motivated persons was trying to create confusion among the people with false allegations on tribal land rights. He said BTC was formed under 6th schedule of the Constitution and the land rights were continuing as per the 6th schedule norms. No one can change the rules and regulations of land rights without amendment by the state as BTC has no power to change land rules. He said the Gauhati High Court had issued eviction notice against the non-protected class of people from tribal belts and blocks but eviction is a state subject and BTC had no power over it. Thus targeting BTC over eviction was completely exaggerated and politically motivated, he said.

Narzary said peace had come in BTC and the council had been working for the people with innovative ideas and various welfare schemes had been launched.
