GUWAHATI : Renowned singer Usha Mangeshkar has reached Guwahati on Tuesday 22nd November, to receive the Bhupen Hazarika Antorjatik Samanya Award 2022 ( Bishwaratna Dr Bhupen Hazarika International Solidarity Award ). Prof Jagadish Mukhi, Governor of Assam will offer the award to Usha Mangeshkar in a grand ceremony in NEDFi House.
The award consists of an amount of Rs. 5 lakhs along with a souvenir, an angavastra and a collection of books. Numaligarh Refinery Limited has been presenting this award in association with the Assam Sahitya Sabha since 2013. A committee is set up by the Assam Sahitya Sabha to carry out the selection process for the award. After the selection is done by the committee , Assam Sahitya Sabha choose the deserving person from this list.
Dr. Bhupen Hazarika award started it first edition back in 2013, sponsored by Numaligarh Refinery. Three awardees has been presented with this prestigious title till 2021. The first award was presented to Lubna Marium, she is a renowned Bangladeshi dancer, art director, researcher and cultural activist in 2013 and the last awardee was Eric Khoo in 2019. The awardee this year, Usha Mangeshkar is a versatile singer who has recorded many songs in different languages like Marathi, Manipuri, Hindi, Bengali, Kannada, Nepali, Bhojpuri,Gujrati and Assamese.
Apart from singing she is also interested in painting and has produced the musical drama Phoolwanti for Doordarshan. Usha Mangeshkar has received various awards and nominations for her versatility in singing. Recently she was won the Mirchi Awards 2020 in the Lifetime Achievement category. Usha Mangeshkar was born in 15 December 1935. She came in the spotlight as a playback singer after giving her exceptional performance in some devotional songs. The blockbuster devotional song Jai Santoshi Maa was sung by her in 1975, which gave Mangeshkar all the recognition.
