Various organizations stage sit-in; demand development of greater Kakopathar

Eight organizations staged a two-hour sit-in demanding socio-economic development of greater Kakopathar by Oil India Limited on Friday, and submitted a memorandum to the General Manager of OIL through the Doomdooma Circle Officer, Rannamay Bhardwaj.

TINSUKIA: Eight organizations staged a two-hour sit-in demanding socio-economic development of greater Kakopathar by Oil India Limited on Friday, and submitted a memorandum to the General Manager of OIL through the Doomdooma Circle Officer, Rannamay Bhardwaj. Copies of the memorandum were also sent to the Tinsukia District Commissioner and Doomdooma Circle Officer.

The eight organizations, including Kakopathar Press Club, listed an 11-point charter of demands which included 100 per cent reservation to the local unemployed youths in oil drilling locations, construction of an OIL hospital, a modern stadium, ensuring security of livelihood of Kakopathar residents, planting trees every year in accordance with the forest policy against destruction of forests, paying educational allowance to poor meritorious students in the Kakopathar area every year, besides other demands.

The organizations have also threatened to continue their agitation if the OIL authorities do not take any action on their demands within 10 days. However, the Doomdooma Circle Officer assured the protesters to hold talks with the OIL authorities soon with the mediation of the district administration.
