DHUBRI: First time Vasanta Utsav (spring festival) was held in Dhubri with colourful presentation by artistes here at Rajiv Gandhi Children’s Park recently. The Vasanta Utsav, organized under the auspices of Nrityagan, a cultural group of Dhubri, inspired by Barpeta Vaikuntha Puri Dol Utsav and Vasanta festival of Shantiniketan Dol, was aimed at spreading the intrinsic cultural values and messages through Vasanta Utsav.
Having observed the deterioration of cultural values and also deculturalization of Dol festival in recent years, Nrityagan came out with the novel idea to stage the Dol festival welcoming the Vasanta (spring season) with colours.
Celebration of Vasanta Festival began with the opening performance by an exponent of dance, Erika Ingrid Nandi, followed by junior artistes and Arpita Karmakar of Nrityangan.
A renowned stage singer of yesteryears, Achutab Dasgupta (Bhaju) performed recital on Vasanta (spring) which was choreographed in dance form by Dr. Banashree Banarjee.
Sayan Baul, Payel Kalwar, Sheuli Datta, and artistes from Gauripur performed Bhangra and Goalpariya dance while Roland Ghosh Barua enthralled the audience with song and music. A traditional fashion show was also staged. The painting on canvas by Anangsha Paul and Sourabh Paul also drew appreciation.
Since the celebration of Vasanta Utsav synchronized with International Women’s Day, all the dancers - Erika Ingrid Nandi, Dr. Banashree Banerjee, Mansi Devi and Maumita Sengupta were felicitated.
Earlier, president of Simanta Chetana Manch, Puvouttar, Dr. Pratima Neogi inaugurated the programme to lit the earthen lamp while Principal of INA Academy Bilasipara, Paritosh Ghosh, and president of Dhubri Rajiv Gandhi Park, Rajiv Sharma spoke on Vasanta Utsav and stressed observing it as this festival spreads the message of universal brotherhood and unity in diversity. Convener of Nrityagan, Dipankar Majumdar, while talking to The Sentinel, said that over 700 people participated in the festival and made it a success. The sole purpose to organize Vasanta Utsav was to promote the glorious culture and tradition of Dol or Holi among the youths. “Celebration of Basanta Utsav could have been possible for the first time in Dhubri owing to the tireless effort put together by Maumita Das, Debu Das, Jayanta Mondal, Deepak Barman and many others,” Majumdar said.
