Veerangana Sati Sadhani Award programme to be held in Dhakuakhana

Sati Sadhani, the queen of Chutia kingdom, formed a women’s brigade to save the motherland extraneous aggression in 1524.

LAKHIMPUR: Sati Sadhani, the queen of Chutia kingdom, formed a women's brigade to save the motherland extraneous aggression in 1524. This women's brigade is considered to be the first of its kind ever in the history of the world. The State Government has conferred an award titled as Veerangana Sati Sadhani Award every year in order to glorify her ideology, valour and courage.

This year, the Veerangana Sati Sadhani Award distribution programme will be held on December 24 in Dhakuakhana of Lakhimpur district. The ceremonial programme will be organized in the public field of Dhakuakhana under the auspices of the Directorate of Culture in association with Lakhimpur district administration, Sodou Chutia Jati Sanmilan, Mahila Sanmilan, Yuva Sanmilan and All Assam Chutia Students' Union.

Notably, prominent social activist of the State, Minati Borthakur has been selected for the Veerangana Sati Sadhani Award, 2020. The ceremonial programme held in order to confer the award to her will kick off with the unfurling of flag by Chutia Jati Sanmilan president Amiya Kumar Borah. It will be followed by smriti tarpan event and the traditional Deu Kuber Puja of the Chutia community.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will attend the open session of the event as chief guest. In addition to him, Agriculture Minister Atul Borah, Panchayat and Rural Development-cum- Cultural Affair Minister Naba Kumar Doley and Lakhimpur MP Pradan Baruah will be present as guests of honour while Golaghat MLA and former Cabinet Minister Ajanta Neog, Lakhimpur MLA Utpal Dutta, Dhemaji MLA Dr. Ranoj Kumar Pegu and many political leaders will be present as invited guests. Head of the Department of Sociology, Dibrugarh University, Dr. Jyoti Prashad Saikia will take part in the programme as appointed speaker while MLA Angoorlata Deka will inaugurate the cultural event organized on the occasion.

On Friday, a review meeting in view of organizing the event smoothly was held at Dhakuakhana Sadhani Bhavan in the presence of Minister Naba Kumar Doley. In the meeting, the office bearers of the organizing committee and dignitaries of Chutia community organizations were present.
