GAURISAGAR: Rajen Chutia, a resident of Gaurisagar Pragati Path in Sivasagar district, former headmaster of Gaurisagar Girls’ High School (Gaurisagar High School), noted social worker, writer and scribe passed away due to cardiac arrest. According to family sources, on Monday night at about 11.30 pm he feels uneasy and family members immediately admitted him to Sibsagar Civil Hospital but the doctor declared him dead. He was 66.
Rajen Chutia started his career as an Assistant Teacher in Gaurisagar Girls’ High School on November 11, 1980. From 2006 to 2014, he was headmaster and got superannuation on March 31, 2014. For his contribution in the field of teaching, he was awarded State Best Teacher’s Award in 2013 on the occasion of the 53rd Teachers’ Day. He was actively associated with Axam Xahitya Xabha (AXX), Gaurisagar branch, Sadou Asom Karmachari Parishad (SAKP), Sivasagar district committee and Gaurisagar regional committee, and various other organizations.
A shraddhanjali function was held in his residence where people condoled his demise. Later, his body was taken to Gaurisagar High School where people offered floral tribute to the respected teacher. Thereafter, his body was taken to his Gaurisagar residence where his last rites were performed. He is survived by his wife Anjana Chutia, headmistress of Balamia Napukhuri MV School and noted writer, a son, and a daughter and a host of relatives.
