Veteran educationist Rukheswar Baruah passes away in Sivasagar district

GAURISAGAR: Rukheswar Baruah, noted educationist, veteran sportsperson, social worker and retired Principal of Jhanji HS School and a resident of Jhanji Moran Gaon in Sivasagar district, breathed his last on August 24 at his residence due to old-age ailment. He was 86.

Born in 1st March 1935, he got his primary education from No 77 Moranchiga LP School. Later, he joined Jhanji Higher Secondary School (formerly known as Jhanji Boys' High School) and passed matriculation in 1953. After graduation he served as an assistant teacher in Bamunpukhuri High School for a few days. He then joined Jhanji High School in 1958 as assistant teacher. In November 1979, he took the charge of Headmaster. In 1991, the school was upgraded to Higher Secondary standard and subsequently he became the first Principal. He got superannuation in 1993. As a teacher he was very sincere and dedicated. He was also actively associated with various social organizations.

Rukheswar Baruah was a prominent sportsperson in the greater Jhanji area and played football and volleyball since his school days. He was also an actor and director. For his outstanding contribution in the field of education, sports and social development, he was publicly felicitated on April 21, 2019 by the people of greater Jhanji area, his students and well wishers. His demise was widely mourned. He is survived by five sons, three daughters and a host of relatives.
