LAKHIMPUR: A crucial joint meeting among All Boro Students Union (ABSU), United Bodo People’s Organization (UBPO), All Rabha Students’ Union (ARSU) and Rabha Joutha Sangram Parishad (RJSP) on village notification and constituency delimitation under the Bodo Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council (BKWAC), which was formed as per Article 5.1 of the Third Bodo Peace Accord, was held under the aegis of the Tribal Welfare Department, Government of Assam, on Wednesday.
The meeting was organized at the Administrative Staff College, Khanapara, Guwahati, under the management of Tribal Welfare Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu. UBPO central committee president Manuranjan Basumatary and general secretary Pitambar Brahma informed this correspondent that in the meeting, detailed discussion was held over the inclusion or exclusion of the Bodo villages under the Goalpara district and South Kamrup, being included in the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council (RHAC) and, currently, in BKWAC. The meeting welcomed the process being initiated to have the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council upgraded to the Sixth Schedule. The meeting took unanimous decision for including the Bodo villages under the Goalpara district and South Kamprup in the BKWAC until the upgrade of the RHAC to the Sixth Schedule.
In the meeting, Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu said that the cabinet decision regarding the settlement of the issue of village notification and constituency delimitation of BKWAC would be taken within the next fifteen days. The meeting was attended by RHAC Chief Executive Member Tankeswar Rabha, BTC Speaker Katiram Boro, BKWAC Chief Executive Member Mihiniswar Basumatary and the Executive Members, ABSU president Dipen Boro, vice-president Khwrwmdao Owari, general secretary Khanindra Basumatary, ARSU president Nripen Khanda, general secretary Pradeep Rabha, UBPO central committee president Manuranjan Basumatary, general secretary Pitambar Brahma, vice-president Badal Musahari, Lalit Chandra Brahma and office-bearers of Rabha Joutha Sangram Parishad.
