GUWAHATI: In the latest development to the Vineet Bagaria's suicide case, Dibrugarh Sadar Police Station officer in charge Boloram Terang has been transferred with immediate effect.

On the other hand, the Jorhat Sadar police station officer in charge, Raju Chetry has been transferred and will be taking over the charges of the Dibrugarh police station.

This comes after Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the members of the deceased family and assured strict action would be taken against the police officials for their negligence in duty.

Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia moved the Governor seeking a CID investigation into the lapses on the part of the Dibrugarh District Police in the reported suicide committed by animal rights activist Vineet Bagaria.

In a letter to the Governor, Saikia said, "I would like to request you to give direction to the Assam Government to initiate a CID investigation as a suo moto case against the Dibrugarh District Police regarding their negligence which led to such an unfortunate incident. The police officer concerned should be held accountable for not taking any timely action even after repeated complaints by the deceased's family."

On the other hand, MP Gaurav Gogoi moved the Chief Minister with a letter. He said, "…what is even more shocking is that the matter had earlier been brought to the notice of the police administration and the Deputy Commissioner of Dibrugarh by the deceased's family, yet no one bothered to register an FIR. Had the police administration acted on time, they could have saved the activist. The police officers should be held accountable for not registering the FIR and not taking timely action even after repeated complaints by the family."
