Vocational training centre inaugurated at Graham Bazaar Girls High School

DIBRUGARH: A vocational training centre was inaugurated at Graham Bazaar Girls High School, Dibrugarh under the Empowering Girl’s Initiative of Rotary International on Friday. This has been undertaken under District Grant No. DG2344770 funded by the Rotary Foundation. Six Usha sewing machines were handed over to the school for imparting the skills of cutting and tailoring to students of the institution. Rotary International which was founded in 1905 carries out its humanitarian activities in seven focus areas.

The organisation is giving much focus on empowering girls. In order to equip the girl child with vocational skills, training centres have been set up by Rotary clubs in various parts of the world. One such initiative has been taken up by Rotary club of Dibrugarh which is a part of RI International District 3240 which comprises of Northeast India and a major part of West Bengal.

To mark the occasion, a meeting was held in association with Binti Sharma, District Elementary Education Officer and Inspector of Schools of Dibrugarh District as the chief guest. Nina Kakoty Dutta, Headmistress of the school welcomed the guests.

Rotary Past District Governor and Rotary International Ambassador Kalpana Khound spoke on the objectives of the Empowering Girls Initiative and expressed her gratitude to the Rotary Foundation, District Governor Dr. Kushanava Pabi and District Rotary Foundation Chair Rtn. Arijit K Endow for making the project possible. The chief guest Binti Sharma lauded the initiative taken by Rotary Club of Dibrugarh and said that this would be a great gift for the students of the school for developing their skills.

The president of Rotary Club of Dibrugarh Sajidur Rahman said that the members of the club were happy to be able to offer the sewing machines to the school. He also assured cooperation in the future to develop the vocational centre and thanked the headmistress Nina Kakati and Assistant Headmistress Utpala Sharma for their support in carrying out the project. The meeting was attended by the members of the Rotary Club of Dibrugarh R K Todi, Sudershan Khound and secretary of the club Bijay Kumar Nawka, along with teachers and students of the school.
