DIBRUGARH: Dibrugarh police, acting on reliable sources input, arrested seven drugs peddlers from AMC vicinity and recovered 67.6 gram heroin - 53 grams in container and 14.6 grams in a loose packet- from their possession. The police also recovered one motorcycle, one Scooty and eight mobile phones during the raid.
The arrested peddlers are Bipin Raut, Mirza Ummed, Riky Pandey, Jintu Thapha, Vishal Newar, Abhisekh Karmakar and Sibu Mech. Police registered a case (No. 63/22).
Superintendent of Police S.Mishra told media persons that the police had some information that few drug peddlers were roaming around in AMC areas near NEC hostels. A police team headed by the Assistant Police Commissioner, conducted a raid in the area and successfully completed the operation with arrest of seven drug peddlers and recovery of heroin. The SP further stated that police arrested all the kingpins and operation was on to arrest the others involved.
As a sequel to Monday's arrest, the police arrested four more drug peddlers from the Bogibeel Bridge on Tuesday. According to sources the police on suspicion, gave signal to a Dibrugarh-bound Tiago car (bearing registration no AS06 AB 4887) near Bogibeel toll gate to halt. The driver ignored the police signal and ultimately had a collision with a truck. Police arrested the passengers of the car and during search, recovered 26.17 gram heroin and .38 gm heroin in the container, Rs 25,000 cash from the car. The police also seized the car. Investigation is on.
Similarly, the police team headed by Additional Superintendent of Police Bitul Chetia and OC, Moran PS, Bijoy Daimari conducted a raid in the rented house of Hari Narayan Sarma, Raidang Chariali, Moran on Wednesday. Police arrested Rupam Das of Milan Nagar and Nipon Das of Kumaronichiga, Dibrugarh. Police recovered 38 gm drugs, Rs 50,000, two mobile phones and a car from their possession.
