JOYSAGAR: In a deep survey and field study initiative taken by the Assam State Archeological Survey Department on Wednesday, as many as four military towers were discovered in the Chintamonigarh area near the Jhanji-Teok development block jurisdiction.
The height of the towers is about 30 to 45 feet from the ground and it was assumed that during the Ahom reign, the local soldiers had made such war towers to keep vigil on the movement of the enemy. The towers were made from local bricks and soil but no modern type of cementing was found, revealed ASAS Department field officer Navajit Dewri.
A team of the ASAS, Guwahati visited Upper Assam villages recently and during their visit, they discovered many ancient sites. Besides the war towers, the team was also able to find other items of the Ahom era.
