Ward member of Uttar Dhakuakhana Gaon Panchayat 'assaulted'

LAKHIMPUR: Sensation prevailed in Dhakuakhana subdivision following alleged physical assault on a female ward member of the Uttar Dhakuakhana Gaon Panchayat by an unruly youth.

As per report, the incident took place over an agriculture bundh construction work. On Friday, victim ward member of the said GP, Jyoti Baruah, who was elected from Malorbari ward representing BJP, went to inspect the ongoing construction of the agriculture bundh. At that time, confrontation took place between Jyoti Baruah and Mintu Baruah, who is also a BJP member, regarding the share of the scheme being implemented under MGNREGA. Mintu Baruah allegedly scolded Jyoti Baruah and physically assaulted her, grabbing her on neck. As a result of it, the ward member sustained serious injuries.

In this regard, victim Jyoti Baruah, though lodged an FIR on Friday at Dhakuakhana Police Station against Mintu Baruah, police registered the case vide No. 219/US/295/395/500 IPC on Saturday only. The people living under the GP demanded Dhakuakhana police and the subdivisional administration to initiate stern action against the unruly BJP member for assaulting an elected female public representative.
