DOOMDOOMA: With weather being favourable now, OIL is now all set to douse the fire that broke out on June 9 after spewing of gas and condensate on May 27 at its BGR No.5 gas well at Baghjan in Tinsukia district. This has rendered thousands of villagers homeless since then and totally charred their household properties due to spill of condensate within a radius of one kilometre from the accident site. The sad part is till date OIL has not come to an agreement with Milanjyoti Gaon Yubak Sangha, which is the umbrella organization of the worst sufferers in its vicinity.

Meanwhile, the second heavy duty bulldozer that got stuck near the well was retrieved successfully on Monday. On relief and rehabilitation, the committee constituted by the district administration for survey assessment of damage for compensation has so far completed survey of 962 families in Tinsukia and Doomdooma circles.
