MORIGAON: An international webinar on 'Climate change: Lessons and Actions' was held at Morigaon College recently. It was organized by the Department of Zoology, Morigaon College, collaborating with the Department of Zoology, Gauhati University and Zoological Society of Assam.
Dr. Lila Kanta Borthakur, Principal of Morigaon College, inaugurated the webinar and delivered the welcome address. Dr. Borthakur described the history of Morigaon College and recent status of the institution in the field of education. Dr. Bidyut Bikash Goswami, a young scientist-cum- Research Professor working on 'Irreversible Climate Change Research Centre', Yonsei University, Seoul, South Korea was the invited speaker of the international webinar. Dr. Goswami is an Assamese born in Tezpur. After much research work in the field of Atmospheric Space Science as a Postdoctoral fellow and Postdoctoral associate in different parts of the world like Canada and Middle East, he gained lot of knowledge over Climate Science. In his speech, he talked about the causes of climate change and increase of temperature in the world and how it could impact our livelihood in the near future.
Dr. Goswami urged people to co-operate with the government to resolve garbage problems and to deal with the COVID situation. He appeals to the Morigaon College management to make an eco-friendly campus and at the end of the webinar, Dr. Ranjit Kalita, IQAC Co-ordinator, Morigaon College, informed him that the Morigaon College campus was already eco-friendly and he also talked about the Saturday agenda of Morigaon College of borrowing public vehicles to slow down the emission of Green House gases. He also informed him about different plantation programmes of the college, which were highly appreciated by Dr. Goswami.
Dr. Jogen Ch Kalita, Head of the Department of Zoology, Gauhati University, general secretary of Zoological Society of Assam and president of the governing body of Morigaon College, was present as guest of honour. Dr. Priyabrata Lahkar, president of the Zoological Society of Assam, was also present in that webinar as guest of honour. Around 230 participants from different parts of Assam and India participated in the webinar.
