LAKHIMPUR: The week-long Bhagawat recitation programme organized from March 26 to April 2 at Shri Shri Sankar Sewashram, located at Amarapuri under Garehaga area of the Lakhimpur district, concluded with grand success.
Following the 3,000-year-old tradition of the ‘Sanatana Dharma’, the week-long event was jointly organized by 22 villages under larger Garehaga area in view of spiritual enhancement and welfare of mankind, checking of moral degradation in a section of youths and destruction of evil forces. On the inaugural day, the agenda of the event began with the lighting of earthen lamps at Shri Shri Sankar Sewashram Namghar by Lakhi Baruah and conduct of Usha Kirtan at 4:00 am.
Organizing Committee president Bidyadhar Borah hoisted the Dharma Dhwajja at 7:00 am. The 'Sapta Baikuntha' and 'Naimisharanya' was set up by Bholanath Goswami, the Xatradhikar of Gomotha Mahara Xatra. 'Nouka' was set up by Hemchandra Gohain amid divine notes of 'Gayan-Bayan' performed by Chakrapani Gayan-Bayan Dal led by Amulya Hazarika. Then the week-long recitation of the Bhagawat Purana, the holy scripture, was inaugurated by Debananda Goswami, the Deka Xatradhikar of Auniyati Xatra. The recitation began with Gitacharya Purandar Baruah. The inaugural session of the event was held under the management of Organizing Committee secretary Amrit Barbaruah and assistant secretary Indrajit Kakati.
The event on Sunday concluded with Sapta Baikuntha Bedi Bisarjan, Bhagawat Bhraman and Nam-Prasanga. At night, a bhaona titled Nrisingha Murari, dedicated by social worker Bhabendra Baruah and his family, was staged by the youths of the larger Garehaga area under the direction of Simanta Dutta. The organizing committee informed that as many as 20,000 devotees, irrespective of their age and gender, assembled at Shri Shri Sankar Sewashram during the week to listen to the recitation of the holy scripture.
