TINSUKIA: Due to unprecedented escalation of COVID-19 positive cases and number of deaths, Tinsukia district administration imposed complete lockdown for a week effective from 6 pm of Wednesday till 6 pm of August 11 under the jurisdiction of Tinsukia and Makum Municipal Boards. The order issued by the District Magistrate and chairman, District Disaster Management Authority, however, stated that the essential services within the declared areas would remain unhindered during this lockdown period.
Meanwhile, four persons died of COVID-19 on Tuesday raising the number of casualty to 24 in the district. They have been identified as Pranab Saikia (43) of Railway Colony Hijuguri, Renu Sarma (65) of Sripuria, Arati Limbu (60) of Makum and Badal Debnath (56) of Digboi. Proportionately, the positive cases spiked to 2,285 with the release of 1,611 persons. Out of 155 cases detected on Tuesday, 130 persons contacted the disease through community transmission while 56 cases were reported on Wednesday till the filing of this report.
