Weekly markets closed in Sivasagar due to surge in COVID cases

DEMOW: An order from the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Sivasagar on Saturday stated that a large number of COVID-19 cases had been detected in the district and it had become necessary to contain the spread of COVID-19 by way of restricting mass gathering, as communicated by the Chief Secretary of Assam vide order No. ASDMA 28/2021/63 dated 4th May 2021.

Since weekly markets are places of public gatherings where from the spread of the virus cannot be ruled out, Bishnu Kamal Borah, Deputy Commissioner and Chairman DDMA, Sivasagar, in exercise of power conferred under Section 34 (C) of Disaster Management Act, 2005, ordered for closing of all the weekly markets under Sivasagar district. This order comes into force with immediate effect and will be continue until further order. Any person (s) violating this order will be penalized under relevant provision of laws.
