Wild jumbo tramples one to death in Lakhimpur district

LAKHIMPUR: Along with the most parts of the State, the human-pachyderm conflict continues in Lakhimpur district too. In the district, wild elephants have created havoc at Tariyani, Ghagar Nagar, Chaoldhowa area while roaming in search of food.

A person living at Kuhiyarbari village under Chaoldhowa Police Outpost died after he was attacked by a wild elephant on Sunday night. The person has been identified as Ratul Saikia (35), son of Bipin Saikia. He was a wage earner.

As per report, a wild elephant came to the village on Sunday night. Ratul was attacked and trampled to death by the elephant when he came out of his home around 9:30 pm. Police and forest officials recovered the body on Monday and shifted the body to North Lakhimpur Civil Hospital for post mortem. The body was cremated after post mortem.

Ratul Saikia is survived by his wife and three daughters along with his aged parents. The poor family has become helpless after losing the only one earning member of the family.
