Guwahati: Kumar Sanjay Krishna, the Chief Secretary of Assam, in a Friday tweet stated that the State Government will try to incorporate "implementable views" while declaring the relaxations for the next phase of the lockdown in Assam's locked down areas – primary among them Guwahati.

"Received about 1,400 responses in 24 hours to my appeal for suggestions for Unlock 1.0. I thank each one of you for your constructive views. We will try to incorporate the implementable ones!", the Chief Secretary of Assam wrote in a tweet.

A day earlier, Sanjay Krishna had posted a tweet on his official Twitter account inviting suggestions from the public as to what the new rules and regulations in the next phase of the lockdown (termed as Unlock 1.0) should be.

Immediately, the Chief Secretary of Assam received a bombardment of tweets from the citizenry expressing their myriad concerns. While some called for the strengthening of the police machinery so as to enforce a stricter lockdown, others complained that there would soon be deaths due to the lockdown. Then again there were some who said that they would have to soon go out and work as they have to foot bills.

Lockdowns have been imposed in several regions of Assam following a rapid surge in the number of COVID-19 cases as well as deaths. Initially, the focus was on Guwahati city, where the number of deaths has rocketed beyond 20, but now, other smaller towns like Jorhat have also raised the alarm. Yesterday alone, 92 COVID-19 cases were detected in Jorhat – the largest single-day spike – and 10 areas have been demarcated as Containment Zone.

Assam Coronavirus Update:

Yesterday, 1,218 more COVID-19 cases were detected in Assam, out of which 570 cases were reported from Guwahati.

With this spike in the number of cases, the tally stood at 21,864 with 7,705 of the cases 'active' ones.

Patients were discharged throughout the day and in total, 551 people were sent home after recovering from the dreaded disease.
