Woman allegedly killed by son in Bongaigaon district

A woman named Thaneswari Barman (55) was allegedly killed by her son Manjit Barman (32) in the Bidyapur area

BONGAIGAON: A woman named Thaneswari Barman (55) was allegedly killed by her son Manjit Barman (32) in the Bidyapur area under Bidyapur Police Outpost of Bongaigaon district on Wednesday. Talking to press IC, Bidyapur Outpost said that they were informed about the incident in the morning. "We immediately rushed to the spot and found the body of Thaneswari. She was stabbed several times by sharp weapons. We have arrested Manjit and started an investigation," he said.

"Manjit and his mother lived in the campus alone. Manjit had been suffering from mental illness for a long time and was under treatment at the mental hospital in Tezpur. Today, he had to be taken to Tezpur for treatment as stated by their relatives. But in the morning, one of their relatives noticed that a gas cylinder and the bike were lying on the road in front of their house. He entered the house and found Thaneswari's body and informed the neighbors and police," IC mentioned. Manjit was sent to the mental hospital for treatment. Police are continuing their investigation.
