Women's organization stages protest in Lakhimpur district

Responding to the call of the Assam State Committee of All India Mohila Sanskritik Sangathan (AIMSS), the Lakhimpur district unit of the organization observed Davi Divas in North Lakhimpur town on Tuesday.

LAKHIMPUR: Responding to the call of the Assam State Committee of All India Mohila Sanskritik Sangathan (AIMSS), the Lakhimpur district unit of the organization observed Davi Divas in North Lakhimpur town on Tuesday.

In this connection, the members of the organization demonstrated two-hour long protest in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office of the district. By initiating the agitational programme, the protesters demand to stop crimes against women like killing, rape etc. to ban pornography, to take strict step against narcotic substances, to stop commercialization and communialization of the education system, to scrap the new National Education Policy, 2020, to stop killing people in the name of encounter, to introduce pass-fail system in exams again from Class I, to introduce English as a subject in the schools of vernacular medium from Class I.

The protesters rented the air by shouting various slogans in support of their demands. Attending the protest programme, Chief Convener of Lakhimpur district unit of the organization, Lily Doley became vocal over the sensitive issues while addressing the protesters. She alleged that the present governments attempted to collapse the very backbone of the universal education in the nation by implementing the new education policy. She called upon to oppose the NEP, 2020 and demanded the government to scrap it.
