DOOMDOOMA: In view of the work for capping the OIL's BGR No.5 well at Baghjan in Tinsukia district progressing well, in all likelihood the final move to kill the fire will be initiated on Friday.

In the meanwhile, all major debris having been cleared from the well plinth, a detail inspection of the well was undertaken on Wednesday jointly by Alert, ONGCL and OIL technical team to decide the next course of action while excavation for ramp adjacent to the cellar was started from Wednesday. A press release from OIL stated that this would be followed by breaking and excavation of the cellar. Total eight water pumps are available for pumping water from Dangori River to two water reservoirs created at the well site for the capping operation and all eight pumps are in operating condition. Both the water reservoirs are filled up periodically as per requirement. Total six (3 ONGC pumps and 3 OIL pumps) CMT High Discharge Water Pumps are available in the site for spraying water to the well head during operation. As regards relief and rehabilitation, survey job for assessment of damage for compensation in both Tinsukia and Doomdooma Circle is in progress. Total number of families surveyed combining both Tinsukia and Doomdooma Circle till July 15 is 1,577.
