SILCHAR: The work for much awaited Multi Modal Logistics Park would begin within six months after the finalization of land, stated MP Dr Rajdeep Roy. On Sunday evening he inspected the land for the proposed mega project at Salchapra near Silchar town. He further visited two other proposed sites at Sripur and Ghagrapar. State government had identified these three sites for the logistics park which requires at least 200 acres of land. Roy said, a cold storage would also be set up to house raw materials.

Speaking to the mediaperson, Rajdeep Roy said, a group was trying to disrupt the process of setting up a greenfield airport at Dolu near Silchar. He further said that the recent arrest of two Maoist leader including a top rank ideologue Arun Bhattacharjee from a tea garden in Udharbond , made it clear that the ultra left force was actively working in Barak Valley. On the other hand, some anti national activities were also in the rise in the valley which shares border with Bangladesh. In this backdrop, setting up of a central intelligence office in Barak Valley was of utmost importance, maintaining this Roy said he had already raised the matter in Lok Sabha and sought intervention of Home Minister Amit Shah.

Rajdeep claimed that Barak Valley had turned into a "breeding ground" of Maoists and necessary action needs be taken for a crackdown on the seditious activities. Setting up of an IB office under the supervision of an IPS officer would immensely help in reducing the activities and other crimes, Rajdeep said.

He said, "There are international borders in Barak Valley. Along the bordering areas, anti-national/seditious activities and smuggling take place from time to time."

The MP spoke about the Greenfield airport and said, "A particular group has been constantly trying to derail this project for their own vested interests." He, however, made it clear that his government would not compromise with the development of this region.

As regards the uncompleted portion of the Mahasadak, MP Dr Rajdeep Roy said that in response to his letter written to Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways seeking his intervention into the completion of this project, the Minister took the matter on a war footing and sanctioned the required amount for this. He said, "I have received a letter from Nitin Gadkari in response to my letter letting me know that the LoA has been issued on March 10 for construction of 4-lane between Harangajao to Narimbunglo via Jatinga ( 50 km approx ) under NHAI at an estimated cost of Rs 1674 crore."

Regarding the upgrade of GC College, Silchar and Karimganj College to full fledged universities, Dr Roy informed that he had already taken up this issue at the appropriate level and will also do the follow up action in this connection.
