DOOMDOOMA: The tea workers and the employees of the tea gardens belonging to Apeejay Tea Ltd., one of India's oldest tea companies, had to spend time amid great uncertainty as the company failed to disburse the fortnightly wages of the tea labourers and the monthly salaries of the employees regularly for the past few months.

Consequently, the labourers and the employees of the tea gardens in and around Doomdooma town in Tinsukia district staged sit-in in their respective tea gardens for an hour on Thursday. The labourers and the employees of Budlabeta, Talup, Khobong, Hilika, Hokonguri, Hapjan and Pengaree Tea Estates of Apeejay Tea Ltd, under the banner of Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha (ACMS) and Assam Chah Karmachari Sangha (ACKS), staged sit-in and shouted slogans in support of their demands. They demanded the company to release their dues at the earliest.

Assam Tea Employees Provident Fund Organization (ATEPFO) attached the Talup Tea Estate of Apeejay Tea Ltd. here on Wednesday for allegedly defaulting in depositing the outstanding Provident Fund (PF) dues of the workers.
