DHUBRI: A workshop and awareness meeting on 'Save and conserve rainwater' was held under the auspices of Dhubri Nehru Yuva Kendra here at its office auditorium on Saturday.

Speaking in the workshop, Assistant Engineer of Dhubri Municipal Board, Abdul Jalil Sheikh said that despite plenty of water available, why was the need for saving and conserving rainwater being talked about. "Answer is simple ! We have already pumped up out ground water and misusing it, because of which ground water level has gone down. Situation in urban areas of the country is alarming and worrisome. To save the ground water, we must look for other alternative sources of water. Rainwater harvesting and conserving is the most easy and cost-effective method. So people need to be aware about it," Abdul Jalil Sheikh explained.

The meeting and workshop was also addressed by Dhubri Subdivisional Officer (Sadar) Dhrubajyoti Hatibaruah, PHE Engineer of South Samara-Mancachar district, Akif Sarkar and president of Dhubri Journalists' Association, Bijoy Kumar Sharma. Earlier, objective of the meeting was explained by Youth Coordinator of Dhubri Nehru Yuva Kendra, Sharif Sarkar and an oath was administered to save water and conserve it.

Altogether 32 volunteers will be campaigning in 50 villages of Dhubri district in the days to come to create awareness on 'Catch the Rain When it falls and where it falls !' Youth Coordinator, Sharif Ahmed said.
