JORHAT: CSIR-North East Institute of Science and Technology (NEIST), Jorhat, conducted a one day workshop on Tuesday on the topic "Artificial Intelligence in Drug Discovery" as part of two programmes of high importance in online platform i.e. Summer Research Training Programme 2020 (SRTP2020) and Drug Discovery Hackathon 2020 (DDH2020), under the leadership of Director, Dr. G Narahari Sastry.

The workshop is the blend of SRTP2020 and DDH2020 which primarily focuses on the work that is carried out in Advanced Computational and Data Sciences division headed by Dr Sastry. The theme of the workshop is the application of Artificial Intelligence in the field of Biology, Chemistry and Drug Discovery and it was participated by approximately 4000 participants through different online platforms countrywide.

Dr. G. Narahari Sastry, Director of the CSIR-North East Institute of Science and Technology (NEIST), Jorhat gave a warm welcome to all the participants and dedicated this workshop in the memory of late former President Pranab Mukharjee. Dr. G. Narahari Sastry delivered key note lecture where he discussed about the concepts of experiment, theory, modelling and Data Science and their role in drug discovery and drug development. He has highlighted the difference between Learning, Understanding, Intelligence and Insight and deliberated about subjecting these concepts to quantification. He emphasised the role Artificial Intelligence in drug discovery and the role of fourth paradigm in Science and Technology in general and drug discovery in particular. He also elaborately explained the roles of drug discovery processes and the importance of developing indigenous open source drug discovery software. He also elaborated how drug discovery has been transformed from our traditional approach to modern drug discovery with the help of Artificial Intelligence and Machine learning.

An overview of Molecular Property Diagnostic Suite (MPDS) indigenous open source drug discovery software was presented by Dr S Nagamani, Scientist, CSIR-NEIST. He explained the genesis and applications of MPDS. Further, he explained the machine learning script indigenously developed in G.N. Sastry group, stated a press release.
