Workshop on Foundational Literacy and Numeracy held in Lakhimpur

LAKHIMPUR: The Education Department and Samagra Shiksha of Lakhimpur District organized and conducted a workshop on Foundational Literacy and Numeracy on Tuesday at Panindra Vidyalay with day-long programmes.

The workshop commenced with Hemchandra Saikia, Inspector of Schools, District Education Officer and District Mission Coordinator, in the chair. The agenda of the workshop started with a chorus sing performed by the students of Madhavram Gogoi LP School and a Borgeet by Thanukrishna Saikia, a student of Class IV.

The workshop was held in four sessions- in the first session of which Tilak Kumar Mohanty, Member of State Resource Group and CRCC of Narayanpur Education Block, made a presentation on G20 and its presidency and significant activities undertaken in the district under NIPUN Axom and another presentation on the vision, mission, aims and objective and progress under NIPUN Axom Mission.

In the second session, Principal of Lakhimpur Kendriya Vidyalaya, Chitaram Berwa discussed the significance, challenges and opportunities of NIPUN Axom Mission and how measures had been taken to implement Foundational Literacy and Numeracy in Kendriya Vidyalayas. In the third session of the workshop, Apurba Kumar Roy, Principal, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Lakhimpur discussed the G20 presidency of India and public participation of Janbhagidari activities. He explained the role through various examples and gave important comments on how to help achieve the goal of a NIPUN Axom. In the fourth session of the workshop, Jonali Hazarika, lecturer, DIET, Lakhimpur discussed the role of National Education Policy - 2020 and National Curriculum Framework for Foundational stage in education.

The workshop was attended by Additional Commissioner (Education) Bhaskar Jyoti Bora and Assistant Commissioner (Education), Jotikana Chetia, who spoke about of the responsibilities and duties of teachers, parents, school management committees, mothers’ groups and the community members. They urged everyone to create awareness on the issue. Notably, yoga and games, fairy tales and riddle telling models have already been implemented in 1705 schools in Lakhimpur district since June 3.

In this regard, four invitee school students performed the activities of the workshop. The schools that performed activity in the workshop were Narayanpur Girls ME School, Madhabram Gogoi LP School, Paschim Lakhimpur LP School and No. 2 Rauwnapur LP School. The event was attended by a number of students.
