World AIDS Day 2022 observed in Tinsukia

Along with the rest of the world, Tinsukia District Health Society and Assam State AIDS Control Society (ASACS) observed World AIDS Day 2022

TINSUKIA: Along with the rest of the world, Tinsukia District Health Society and Assam State AIDS Control Society (ASACS) observed World AIDS Day 2022 with the theme of 'Equalise' in collaboration with District Legal Services Authority, National Health Mission, National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme, Integrated Counselling and Testing Centres, TI- NGO (GUIDE and CIF), National Service Scheme unit/Red Ribbon Club of Tinsukia College.

The district-level central event was inaugurated by Narsing Pawar, Deputy Commissioner of Tinsukia, in the presence of Dipu Deka, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Health), Dr Gauri Sankar Gogoi, Joint Director of Health Services, Tinsukia and other officials from District Legal Services Authority, NGOs, staff of Tinsukia College. The programme was inaugurated at the auditorium of Tinsukia College.

The district-level function was preceded by an awareness rally comprising students from nursing colleges and various institutions, NGOs and other stakeholders. The rally was flagged off by Dr Gauri Sankar Gogoi, Joint Director of Health Services Tinsukia from Thana Chariali to Tinsukia College.

The Deputy Commissioner, while addressing the gathering, said that over the last decade, new HIV infections have been on an increasing trend in the WHO European Region. Data from the report indicate that the number of people in the region living with undiagnosed HIV is on the increase. Hence, World AIDS Day is being observed all over with rallies, public meetings and various other activities.
