Dibrugarh: Along with the rest of the world, the World Biosphere Day was observed at Kanoi College under the aegis of Society for Environmental Conservation (SOFEC), DHSK College. The programme started with a visit to the nearby Barbari Railway High School, Naliapool, Dibrugarh by a team of SOFEC members comprised of its president Dr. L.Doungel and members Dr. T. Bhengra, Dr. Anup Jyoti Bharali and Sun Gogoi. The visit was highly appreciated by the Principal of the school, teachers and students.
On the occasion of World Biosphere Day, Dr.Bhengra, Dr.A.Bharali and Dr.Doungel spoke on the need to protect and preserve the environment. The students pledged to take up steps for protection of the environment. Later a formal function was held in the college at Sankardev Hall which was attended by both past as well as present teachers and students of the college.
Speaking on the occasion, the Principal of the college, Dr Sashikanta. Saikia appreciated the initiative and activities of the SOFEC and suggested the Society to take up plantation of flowers or plants along the road leading from Naliapool to Thana Charali as a part of beautification and cleanliness drive. The two invited speakers on the occasion were Prof. Sudaksina Das, former Head, Department of Zoology, and Dr.Mitali Chaliha, Associate Professor, Department of Geography, DHSK College, Dibrugarh. Dr. Das candidly spoke on different issues related to the environment, right from good health to clean energy and responsibilities, while Dr.Chaliha, also lucidly talked about the local environmental issues of Dibrugarh town.
