GAURISAGAR: A world class museum will be set up at the historic Rupahipathar in Sivasagar district. On Thursday, State Water Resource Minister KeshabMahanta handed over 15 bighas of land to the State Archeology Department in presence of State PWD, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Jogen Mohan, for construction of the iconic museum.

In the present financial year, the Union Government had declared five iconic sites in different States of India like Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Haryana, Tamil Nadu and Assam to construct world class museums. To construct this museum, the Sivasagar district administration has allotted 15 bighas of land to the State Archaeology. The museum will enrich the 600 years of golden era of Ahom rule and ensure protection, preservation of archeological resources of Assam. The construction of the museum will start soon under the initiative of the Union Government after land allotment.

In the function, Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner LakhinandanGogoi, ADC DipakBhuyan and other dignitaries were present. After this programme, ministerKeshabMahanta visited the historic Napukhuri along with Jogen Mohan and the Deputy Commissioner. On November 19, the State-level World Heritage Week will be observed on the bank of Napukhuri where Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will take part.
