Tezpur: With an aim to raise the awareness of the general public about hearing loss and to offer various possibilities for prevention through appropriate ear care, World Hearing Day was observed at Tezpur Kanaklata Civil Hospital premises on Sunday. The programme was organized by District Health Society, Sonitpur.
The programme was presided over by Joint Director Health, Sonitpur, Dr Krishna Kemprai, chief guest Dr Lakheswar Bhuyan, Superintendent of Kanaklata Civil Hospital, Dr Rini Duarah, DPM, Sonitpur, Parag Jyoti Borah, ENT specialist, Dr Tilak Bhatta, Dr Bijoy P Das, Dr Jerina Ahmed and other guests.
Attending the programme as chief guest, Dr Lakheswar Bhuyan said that most cases of hearing loss and ear diseases could be avoided through prevention by identifying hearing loss through screening of newborns, school children and adults above 50 years at an early stage and then carrying out their treatment at the beginning stage.
Dr Hemen Borah also spoke on the significance and importance of ear care, hearing loss and encouraged people to check their hearing regularly and practice safe listening, especially those who work in noisy places or listen to music at high volumes for lengthy periods. He reminded that hearing loss could be prevented through preventive measures and going for regular hearing check-ups.
