World Mental Health Day observed in Tezpur

District Mental Health Programme, Sonitpur in collaboration with District Health Society

TEZPUR: District Mental Health Programme, Sonitpur in collaboration with District Health Society, Sonitpur and IPS Assam State Branch organized World Mental Health Day on Saturday at IMA house conference Hall, Tezpur.

Deputy Commissioner of Sonitpur Bhupesh Chandra Das inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp in presence of guest speaker Dr. Suranjita Mazumdar, Assistant Professor, Dept. Of Psychiatry, LGB Regional Institute of Mental Health, Dr. Hiranjan Saikia, SDM&HO, Kanaklata Civil Hospital, Tezpur, Sandeep Kollipara, Facult, Dept. Of Psychiatric Nursing, LGB Regional Institute of Mental Health, Tezpur and School and College teachers of Sonitpur district among other dignitaries.

Deputy commissioner Bhupesh Chandra Das outlined that the important part of human life are well-being and happiness, devoid of which, people suffer from mental health problem. He dealt upon stigma and discrimination against people suffering from mental illness. He also spoke on ancient Indian concept of mental health and stressed upon holistic health.

Attending the programme as a guest speaker Dr. Suranjita Mazumdar said, "There are various reasons of depression and to combat over it, awareness on mental health issues programme should be held in schools and need to conduct counseling programme among the students. Special attention should be given on the relation between teachers and students. People may sometimes face mental health issues in workplace but that should be discussed with co-workers to get valuable suggestion and remedy to relax from the stress. Eventually, to prevail over the mental health disorder, all sections of society should come forward for a better and healthy society.
