TEZPUR: World No Tobacco Day was observed in the premises of Nursing Training School, Tezpur along with several other programmes held in other parts of Sonitpur district under the aegis of District Tobacco Control Cell, Sonitpur in association with District Legal Services Authority, Tezpur.
District and Sessions Judge, Sonitpur, Chatra Bhusan Gogoi, inaugurated an awareness rally organized on the occasion in the presence of Dr T B Chetri, Superintendent, Kanaklata Civil Hospital, Dr S Tamuli, Nodal officer, District Tobacco Control Cell Sonitpur, Dr Pradip Nath, District Oral health officer & in-charge district tobacco cessation centre, among others. The rally was followed by a public awareness meeting at Nursing Training School of KCH, Tezpur.
The meeting started with a welcome address by Sajijur Rahman, Coordinator, DLSA in presence of senior journalist Dip Kumar Kalita, Priyanka Kakati, District Coordinator, DTCC, Sonitpur and other dignitaries.
Dr S Tamuli, Nodal officer, District Tobacco Control Cell Sonitpur said, "Every individual should contribute towards making a sustainable, tobacco-free society, either by committing to never taking up tobacco or by quitting the habit. Tobacco has a hazardous effect on the human body and society."
Tamuli further said, "Is necessary to discover why we become addicted to tobacco, because we don't love ourselves. When we start loving our lives, all these habits or addictions will definitely be set aside."
Attending the programme, Dr Pradip Nath said, "It should be our moral duty to contribute in the mission as all sections will benefit from successfully controlling tobacco use."
